Atavism
A culmination of my work and design philosophy, Atavism is the capsule collection that embodies every element of my background and future progression. Inspiration is drawn from the connections and relationships we have with one another, sustainable and ethically responsible materials, and silhouettes inspired by modern structures and clean lines.
Atavism is a personal exploration of past, present, and future.
[past]
Inspired by a fascination with the connections and relationships humans have with one another, this collection looks to these familiarities as a reference of the past. This is a detail portrayed through the application + attachment of straps throughout the garments, showcasing different types of ‘connections’ we have with one another.
[present]
Atavism upholds my passionate belief in sustainable fashion and aims to only use ethically and ecologically friendly materials, nostalgic of a simpler + less complicated way of life.
[future]
Inspired by looking to the future, the lines of the garments and thoughtful details appear more structural, juxtaposed to organic fabrics, this embraces the idea of change and newness in the world.
These points of inspiration serve to embody elements of my personal experiences and my perspective of the world going forward, all culminating in a final collection that purely represents myself in its entirety.
Untitled
This collection began the thought process for my thesis collection highlighted above, and is the foundation and pillar of my design philosophy. This project is currently in progress and below is a sample of some of my process work involved.
This collection embodies the response + sensitivity of the demands of our ever changing world by combining industrial minimalism with the integration of our organic environment. This literal combination creates a visual that provides an experience of both nostalgia and optimism. The experience also encourages the wholehearted acceptance of newness, while staying true to foundational roots and beliefs. These ideas are revealed through detailing that is reminiscent of significant time periods throughout history, literal fusions between structural and organic elements, and a focus on 'foundational dressing' which highlights lingerie as a major stakeholder in modern day styling.
Originally inspired by my personal history and roots, Ramblings, a journal written in the 1870's by my great-great grandfather, Joseph LeConte, inspired the time period of reference in the collection and a need to include rustic and artisanal details. The collection also upholds my passionate belief in sustainable fashion and aims to use only ethically and ecologically friendly materials, nostalgic of a simpler + less complicated way of life. And lastly, inspired by looking to the future, the lines of the garments and thoughtful details appear more structural and modern, which embraces the idea of change and newness in the world. These points of inspiration serve to embody elements of my personal experiences and my perspective of the world going forward.
TRANSITIVITY
The collection has a transitive power, reminiscent of shifting or passing time - it evokes the idea of subtle changes in character as time passes through life. This culminates in the creation of a bold, strong, and cohesive collection. Combining structure and drape, each look has elements that seem wildly different from the other, but each has a similar nature, which embodies the idea of shifts in character and form over time. Sketches are done in colored pencil + pastel on tonal paper.
MIMETIC
By highlighting fabric manipulations that mimic naturally occurring formations, this collections results in a soft and organic plume of beautiful lingerie and draped garments. The collection combines the foundational nature of lingerie with the gentleness of natural formations, to create a thoughtfully curated collection. Illustrations are done in marker, colored pencil, + Caran D'ache.
